The Isthmian Youth Cup slipped away from the Woods when Wealdstone came to Chestnut Avenue last Monday evening, and outplayed Northwood over the 90 minutes to take their place in the next round with a 3-1 victory.

The first half of the opening period was like watching two boxers sizing each other up, with both teams having a couple of shots which did not cause to many problems. It was the Woods who started to get on top in the latter stages of the half and they should have taken the lead when Chris Michael fired over the bar when well positioned.

However, it was only six minutes later that they did go ahead, when Max Duffy controlled a good pass and fired it low past the keeper.

The second half was only nine minutes old when Tyrone Durrant, attempting to clear from inside the six-yard box, drove the ball against a closing down striker, and the ball hit him and cannoned into the net. This gave the Stones fresh impetus and they were much quicker into the tackles and started to out-pass the Woods in midfield.

On the hour they took the lead when after some excellent passing the Wealdstone number nine drove home.

Northwood tried to get back into the game but there was no end product in the last quarter of the pitch. And two minutes from time, the Wealdstone number eleven rounded off a good move to slot past the keeper to make it 3-1.
